New Construction · Builder Review
An honest, insider look at Risewell Homes (formerly The New Home Company) at Marvida in Cypress — including firsthand visibility from the same community.
Risewell Homes is the new name for The New Home Company, a California-based builder that entered the Texas market in December 2023 by acquiring Hamilton Thomas Homes. Marvida in Cypress is their entry point into Greater Houston, and I have a genuinely direct vantage point on them: I'm currently listing for Clay Residential in the same community, so I see their sales pace and finished product on the same ground I work every week.
Their national reputation, built primarily in California markets before this Texas expansion, runs strongly positive — homeowners consistently cite an organized, well-communicated buying process. At Marvida specifically, pricing runs from the high $400s into the $700K range across six floor plans between roughly 2,400 and 3,600 square feet, positioning them solidly mid to upper-mid tier for the community.
At high $400s–$700K, Risewell sits toward the upper-mid end of what's active in Marvida, generally above Clay Residential and Starlight Homes and closer to Perry Homes and Chesmar Homes territory. Homes come with 2–3 car garages in a gated section, with access to the shared Canyon Gate-family resort amenities (clubhouse, pools, splash pad, sports courts) that serve the broader Marvida community.
Because this is a genuinely new brand in the Houston market, worth asking directly: how the warranty and post-close service process compares to their California operations, and whether the same construction management team carried over from the Hamilton Thomas acquisition or if this is an entirely new local team building out the Texas division.
Is Risewell Homes a good builder in Houston?
Early indications are positive. Risewell (formerly The New Home Company) entered Texas through the December 2023 acquisition of Hamilton Thomas Homes, and their reviews nationally run strongly positive, with homeowners citing organized processes and responsive staff. I have direct visibility into their work at Marvida, where I currently list for Clay Residential.
How much do Risewell homes cost in Houston?
At Marvida, pricing runs from the high $400s to roughly $700K depending on floor plan, with homes ranging from about 2,400 to 3,600 square feet.
Is Risewell Homes the same company as Hamilton Thomas Homes?
Effectively, yes, going forward. Risewell's parent company, The New Home Company, acquired Hamilton Thomas Homes in December 2023 as its entry into the Texas market, and Hamilton Thomas's leadership and lot positions transitioned into the Risewell organization. New sales activity at Marvida is now under the Risewell name.

It isn't a ranking or a guarantee — build quality can vary by project, superintendent, and timing even within the same builder.
