New Construction · Builder Resource
Where every major builder is currently selling in the Houston metro, what they build, and what distinguishes one from the next — organized by price tier and corridor.
Houston builds more new homes per year than almost any other metro in the country. That means more choices, more communities, and more builders competing for your business — which is useful leverage when you know how to use it. It also means wide variation in build quality, warranty culture, and what happens after you close.
This page gives you a working map of who is building what and where. It is not a ranking and it is not an endorsement. The conversation about which builders I and the experienced independent inspectors in this market feel differently about is one I have in person, not in print. Ask me directly.
Texas-focused builder with a reputation for consistent build quality at accessible price points. Strong presence in the fast-growing outer corridors. Tends to offer solid standard finishes without the hard-sell upgrade culture of some national builders.

Active Corridors
One of Houston’s most recognizable builder names, founded here and still headquartered here. Broad price range means you’ll find them at both affordable and upper-mid communities. Strong master-plan presence. Build quality and customer service vary considerably by community and superintendent — worth asking about specifically.

Meritage is nationally recognized for energy efficiency — spray foam insulation and better HVAC practices are standard, not upgrades. In a Houston climate where cooling costs are real, that distinction compounds over time. Good mid-market presence across the Houston growth corridors.

Active Corridors
Solid mid-market builder with strong master-plan relationships in the Houston corridor. Consistent floor plan quality and active in several of the higher-profile communities. Taylor Morrison’s mortgage arm is one of the better-integrated in-house lender operations — worth comparing against outside options before committing.

Founded in Houston in 1976 and still headquartered here. David Weekley has a reputation — consistently earned — for customer service and warranty responsiveness that is meaningfully better than most production builders in this market. Their Environments for Living energy program pre-dates when other builders started making energy-efficiency claims. Active in both master-planned communities and urban infill.

Active Corridors
Houston-based builder known for design quality and open floor plans in the upper-mid tier. Westin tends to deliver more architectural interest than comparably-priced production builders — ceiling heights, exterior elevations, and interior finish details that photograph well and live well. Active in the most desirable master-planned communities in the northwest and southwest corridors.

Active Corridors
Houston-based builder with a focus on the premium end of the production market. Chesmar tends to build in communities that attract move-up buyers — the floor plans are designed for families who have been through one or two homes before and know what they want. Active primarily in the southwest and southeast growth corridors.

Active Corridors
Houston-based builder known for consistent quality and some of the better warranty service in the local market. Newmark tends to attract buyers who have researched builders carefully — the company does not advertise as aggressively as national builders but earns strong word-of-mouth in the communities where they build.

Active Corridors
Houston-based builder currently active in Marvida (Cypress). Clay brings a developer-aligned perspective to the building process — the communities they build in are typically Land Tejas developments, meaning the land and builder are operating in close coordination. This is a builder I know from the listing side, which means I can speak to the process and the product from direct experience, not just market research.

Active Corridors
The largest luxury production homebuilder in the country. Toll Brothers builds in premium sections of premium communities — their lots and locations are typically the most desirable in the master-plan. Standard finishes are genuinely better than mid-market builders, and the design center options are more extensive. Sales process is polished; warranty responsiveness is more variable.

Active Corridors
Houston’s most recognized semi-custom builder at the luxury tier. Partners in Building designs to the buyer’s specification on selected lots in premium communities — not a true custom builder but significantly more customizable than production. Strong reputation for finish quality and client communication throughout the build process.

Coventry Homes (now under TRI Pointe Group) has built a strong local reputation for design-forward floor plans at the upper-mid to luxury tier. Their homes tend to photograph well and age well — the architectural details that distinguish them from a standard production home show up over time in resale value.

J. Patrick Homes has built exclusively in Houston since 1990, and it shows in the consistency of their product and the depth of their team's local knowledge. A Volume Builder of the Year win at the Houston's Best PRISM Awards and multiple GHBA project awards back up the reputation, with no pattern of serious independent complaints I could find.

Trendmaker has defined luxury in Houston since 1971, and an unusually high referral rate from past buyers backs up the reputation. Now owned by TRI Pointe Group, they pair national financial backing with local roots, and operate a fully custom arm, Avanti Custom Homes, for buyers who want more than semi-custom.

Highland Homes is 100 percent employee-owned, a structure that tends to correlate with a more consistent buyer experience. A 4.3-star average across more than 650 verified Houston reviews and a richer-than-typical standard feature package back that up, though a handful of reviews flag sales commitments not being honored in writing.

Jamestown Estate Homes is a fully custom builder, not semi-custom, willing to build on your own inner-Loop lot as readily as in one of their model-home communities further out. GHBA Custom Builder of the Year recognition, a 4.6-star Houzz rating, and a top-2%-in-Texas BuildZoom score back up the reputation.

Active Corridors
A fully custom luxury builder led by former GHBA president Jim Frankel, and the only Houston custom builder making every home LEED-certified at no extra cost. Architecture, construction, interior design, pools, and warranty are all handled in-house, with a 4.9-star Houzz rating backing the reputation.

A second-generation custom luxury builder led by Michael Sims, with a particular strength in River Oaks and Tanglewood work, including the widely cited historic restoration of the La Colombe d'Or Mansion in Montrose. Projects span from roughly 3,500-square-foot garden homes to estates over 20,000 square feet, so budget conversations start with scope, not a price sheet.

A small, family-owned Houston builder led by Michael Lucas, with nearly three decades of local building experience. Known for a responsive, personal sales and construction team — a real contrast to production-scale builder call centers.

A top-40 national builder by volume, expanding into Houston after a strong track record in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Nashville. Strong GuildQuality survey numbers overall, though at least one detailed local review flagged build-quality and punchlist follow-through worth asking about.

A national builder since 1989 with real accolades (Builder Magazine's 2023 Builder of the Year, Newsweek Most Trustworthy) and an in-house "Studio" design experience. Worth knowing: a real pattern of post-closing warranty complaints alongside the strong reputation, so ask specifically about their claims process.

Ashton Woods' entry-tier sister brand, built for first-time buyers, with smart-home tech (thermostat, video doorbell, locks, hub) included standard rather than sold as an upgrade. I see their work directly since they're active in Marvida, where I currently list.

A note on this page: Community availability, active inventory, and pricing change constantly in the Houston new construction market. The information above reflects current activity as of early 2026 and is updated periodically — but always verify directly with the builder or with me before making decisions based on community-specific information. Builder rankings, quality assessments, and warranty comparisons are not reflected here; those conversations happen in person. If you are seriously considering new construction, the most important thing you can do before visiting a model home is have that conversation first.
The builder’s sales agent represents the builder. I represent you — at no cost to you as the buyer. Let’s talk before you fall in love with a floor plan.
